Usually these blurbs are written by the teacher but in the third person, such as "Bernd is a truly remarkable human being" or suchlike. I prefer to dispense with such nonsense and simply give you a little insight into who I am!
Born in Austria in what feels like a different epoch, the late 70s, I have lived a life of external and internal adventure. Moving countries rather frequently, ever since a move to Australia when I was a mere 9 years old, playing within different fields of profession, in all cases artistic in one way or another, I finally landed in Bali, Indonesia, in 2014, and have lived and taught on this beautiful island ever since.
While there's a lot more, and many wild stories to share, what I find even more exciting about the way my life has gone are the inner horizons that have opened up for me through the practises I engage in and teach. The universe really is vast and infinite; both the one we look at when we gaze at the night sky on a clear night, and the one we look to when we close the eyes and enter into the inner realms of body, mind, and beyond.
My big passion? Sharing all of it to all who will listen!
My approach to the yogic/meditative arts I teach is rather varied; I try to offer as many keys to as many gates as I possibly can in my classes. However, all of it is geared in the same direction, bringing you ever greater amounts of freedom in all areas of your life.
There's a beautiful little Zen analogy I am rather fond of, which is that we all believe we are like stray cats, miserable, wet, hungry, sad, lost. And yet, by undergoing a course of practises, we finally one day wake up to realise we have been a tiger all along!
Through all the many and varied aspects of yogic practice, we dive into the work of making us more fully ourselves. The pathways for the yogi include:
ૐ asana (yoga posture) and other accompanying techniques; we liberate the body from its unhelpful patterns, weaknesses, tight areas, and misalignments.
☯︎ pranayama, the yogic breath work, takes things a little further and frees up energy and emotions
𖤓 meditation is our direct way into the mind and heart.
And through all of it, I weave ancient yogic and meditative teachings into my classes, making them modern and applicable to all of us right here and now. Depending on the class you are taking with me, we emphasize different aspects of our humanness, but all these aspects will be worked with in a very thorough fashion throughout my classes.
